One chart shows where daily coronavirus cases are surging, as the US tallies 1 million cases

In China — the country where the novel coronavirus was first spotted last year — infections appear to have nearly ground to a halt. On Monday, the country reported just three new confirmed cases of COVID-19.
But the novel virus continues spreading fast around the rest of the globe.
In the United States, more than one million people have been confirmed ill, making the country home to the largest reported COVID-19 outbreak on the planet.
“The entire country has been infected,” President Trump said during a briefing at the White House on Monday.
Even so, some states have already begun lifting their lockdown restrictions, letting people back into restaurants and hair salons.
So far, more than 56,250 people have died from COVID-19 in the US, and on Monday alone, 32,417 new infections were recorded across the country. The numbers of confirmed cases and deaths don’t begin to reveal how many people have actually contracted the coronavirus, as …continued .
